Another one selected and purchased by Gomena, Virginia Minstrel (left) capitalized on winter training in Aiken to break his maiden at the Carolina Cup Races in early spring and won the Strawberry Hill Classic at Colonial Downs in his next start. Owned by Oakwood Stable, Virginia Minstrel came from Virginian Bill Backer’s potent flat string. He also finished second in the Jonathan Kiser Novice Stakes at Saratoga. |

Dynantonia transferred his flat form (he won stakes for trainer George Weaver) to steeplechasing where he won the Grade III Marcellus Frost Stakes at the Iroquois meet. Owned by Gregg Ryan, the son of Dynaformer finished third to eventual champion Slip Away in the Temple Gwathmey. |
